Shells, shells and more shells

Marco Island has a farmer’s market on Wednesdays from mid November to the end of April so we decided that we should check it out.  We were lucky to find a couple of parking spots close by which came in handy since we bought some fresh cut up fruit from the very first vendor.  The market is not that big, maybe fifty vendors in total but the variety was great.  It reminded me alot of the Swap Meet in Maui but smaller.  The kinds of things that people were selling were lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, crafts, flowers and food.  We didn’t stay too long since it was getting pretty hot.  Even the locals were complaining about the heat.  But we did manage to get a little bit of everything.  Before heading home, we had some fresh squeezed lemonade which we enjoyed with our beignets.  On our way back to the house, Karen and I picked up delicious pizza fro Joey’s Pizza & Pasta House.

We wanted to check out another beach so we went to South Beach which is further south of Tigertail Beach.  Parking for South Beach is not as close as at Tigertail Beach so we had to pare down what we wanted to bring to the beach.  Tigertail Beach is a bit more secluded versus South Beach which is in front of many many condominiums.  It took us about ten minutes to walk from the car to the beach but it was well worth it.  Many more people today at the beach but since it’s so big, it was easy to find a spot.

After getting our stuff set up, we decided to hit the water.  First thing I noticed is how warm the water was.  If it’s this warm in April, how warm is it in July or August.  Maybe I’ll have to come back to find out.  It was really nice to cool off.  Once we got out of the water, the shelling began.  Just where the waves were breaking is where the best shells were.  We spent alot of time hunched over gathering all kinds of shells.  My technique was to look for colors … anything but white/cream.  Others used the gold panning technique.   I will definitely have to go through the shells before leaving because I can’t bring all of them back.  Most of our time was spent looking for shells but we did manage to get some napping in and snacking.  The sun was starting to set and it seemed like all the people left so that was our cue to head home.

While we were at the market, we picked up some potatoes and corn on the cob to go with our BBQ chicken.  Even the margaritas were flowing tonight.  The evening ended with the boys in the pool and the girls just relaxing.
