Settling in

Our first full day in Maui started early for me, 4:30am to be exact.  Since I could not get back to sleep, I played on the iPad for a bit.  Finally at around 6:00am, I decided I might as well get the day started and began unpacking my stuff.

With no food in the condo, we had to go out for breakfast.  We decided to go to a very popular restaurant called The Gazebo which is at the nearby Napili Shores Resort.  We got there at 8:45am and there was a line already half way around the pool.  While we were waiting, Karen went to get some pictures and struck up a conversation with a table of friendly people.  They gave her a hot tip … order takeout and enjoy it at one of tables around the pool.  It is much faster than waiting in the line to dine in the restaurant.  So we grabbed a table and then Paula and I headed to the takeout counter.  Within about ten minutes of us ordering, our food was ready.  We enjoyed our Banana Mac Nut Pancakes and Fried Rice Plate while admiring the view of Napili Bay.

After dropping our leftovers back at the condo, it was off to Lahaina Gateway Center to check out the Maui Gift & Craft Fair.  Every Sunday from 9:00am to 2:00pm, over fifty vendors offer a variety of things from fine art to jewelry to gifts and so much more.  We spent about an hour wandering around and getting a jump on our Christmas shopping.

Our next stop was back in Kahului at the Costco.  It was busy as it is at any Costco on a Sunday.  We always make a point of visiting a Costco when travelling since they have items native to the area you are in.  At this Costco, they had MauiWine and lots of choices of macadamia nuts.  We tried to stock up with as much as we could since we knew that the prices are better here than in a regular grocery store.  For example we got two loaves of bread for $6.79 USD instead of $9.00 USD for one loaf.

It was way past lunch time when we finished up at Costco.  So on our way back, we stopped and picked up some food from Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop which we enjoyed back at the condo.  With it being 27 degrees Celsius, it was time to head down to the pool and to also check out some of the grounds of Kahana Village.

After enjoying a quick dip in the pool, we headed off to the Times Supermarket to get the last of the items on our grocery list.

don’t judge me

For dinner tonight, we decided to have BBQ chicken and leftover fried rice.  There is nothing better than grilling next to the ocean with palm trees waving in the breeze.  We enjoyed dinner while watching the latest episode of Landman and by 9:00pm, it was time for bed.  What a great start to our vacation.
