I cannot believe that it has been six months since we were on a trip. As some of you may know, Karen has a new puppy. His name is Kai and he is a five month old Shetland Sheepdog. When we were trying to figure out what we were going to do for my birthday vacation, we decided that we wanted Kai to come along. We know that he is a good traveller because back in March, we went to Quebec to pick him up. We know that we wanted to stay in Canada and so we decided that going east would be our best bet.
I got to Karen’s house at 8:00am and we started packing up the car. For a guy that is little, Kai sure has a lot of stuff. Besides filling half of the trunk, he had the entire backseat. We all got settled in the car and by 8:45am, we were on our way.

We decided that our first stop would be at The Big Apple in Colborne. Karen and Kai stretched their legs while I went inside to get our lunch. We made sure that we all got our photo taken by the big apple.

After finishing our lunch in the car, we got back on the highway. Our next stop was at Shannon Park in Kingston. While planning this trip, we tried to mark places in Google Maps that would be good places to stop for Kai. Unfortunately we were not able to enjoy the park, since other dog owners thought it was a leash free park.
We drove for another hour or so and stopped at the ONroute in Morrisburg. It has a nice quiet picnic area where we able to take Kai for a little walk.

We left Morrisburg at 3:30pm and still had another two hours to go. We finally arrived at the Quality Inn in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec just before 6:00pm. After making two trips to get everything into the hotel room, it was time for dinner. It is mandatory that when we are in Quebec, we have to eat at St-Hubert. I went and picked up the food, while Karen and Kai explored the grounds of the hotel.

After dinner, we walked over to a car show that was happening across the parking lot. There were lots of cool cars and Kai seemed to enjoy himself. We wanted to take Kai for another walk, so we drove over to a local high school and walked the track. We ended our day watching Game 2 of The Stanley Cup Final.

I thought that we should have a puppy’s perspective on this trip. Therefore the following are Kai-lights (Kai’s highlights of the day):
– I like car rides
– apples are really big
– I can control when we stop the car
