I can not believe that the week is almost over.  We wanted to get out on the water one more time so we booked a 6:30am whale watching tour ($77 USD / person) with Ultimate Whale Watch for today.  Karen and I kept wondering how we were going to see any whales since the sun is not even up at that time.

After parking the car, we walked the short distance to Ultimate’s booth.  There was one group already there and it was only 6:05am.  We got checked in and very soon the rest of the tour group members arrived.  The group was eighteen just like on Wednesday but unlike Wednesday we were not given a number at check in.  This could be a problem.

Ultimate Whale Watch … the best

When we got to the boat ramp, we saw that Emma was going to be our captain again and Casey our marine naturalist.  We all got situated on the boat and then we were off to find some whales.

We must be bringing the luck with us because five minutes into the trip, we see a whale pec slapping.  Unfortunately I did not get any pictures of it.  All of a sudden Emma and Casey got really excited.  They spotted some false killer whales which are a member of the dolphin family.  The excitement was because of the fact that there are less than two hundred of them in the Hawaiian Islands.  So it is a rare opportunity when you see one.  And we ended the tour with a momma and baby whale.  If you are going to do a whale watching tour in Maui, go with Ultimate Whale Watch.  You will not be disappointed.

We were headed to Upcountry next but first we needed some breakfast.  Karen found Maui Breakfast Food Truck which is located on the Lahaina Bypass.  We both had their Frickin’ French Toast which was awesome.

When our friend Darren was living on Maui and doing his Elvis tribute show called “Burnin’ Love”, he became good friends with Lucille “Cille” MacDonald.  We had met her a few times in the past and when he heard that we were going to Maui, he said that we should visit her.

First let me tell you that Cille is 98 years young.  She has been living on Maui for the past sixty years and unfortunately she lost her home in the tragic fires.  She was rescued by her neighbour and left with only the clothes on her back.  When we arrived at her home in Kula, she greeted us as if we were long lost friends.  We spent about forty-five minutes visiting with her and she kept us entertained with many stories.  For instance, when World War II broke out, Cille went to work in the shipyards as a welder.  She is Rosie the Riveter.  Here is a video that a friend of Cille did of the 81st Pearl Harbor Memorial Serivce.  I wish we could have spent more time with Cille.  After leaving Cille’s, we made a stop in Makawao to do some last minute shopping.

We had not been on the east side of the island so we went to check out the surf at Ho’okipa Beach Park.  There were lots of giant waves for the surfers to ride.

When we got back to the condo, we jumped in the hot tub to relax.  For dinner, we decided to go to the Honoapiilani Food Truck Park.  There are many choices from Hawaiian to Thai to BBQ.  We settled on Maui Chicken Katzu which was awesome.  Unfortunately I forgot to get the name of the truck.

We finished up the night with an episode of “Yellowstone”.
