Prince Edward Island

Tradition dictates that I be on vacation when celebrating my birthday.  And again this year was no exception.  We decided to do a driving trip again. Usually we head down to the United States but this year we decided that we would visit Eastern Canada, specifically Prince Edward Island.

When planning any driving trip, one piece of software is vital in making your trip a success … Microsoft Streets & Trips.  What this software will do is map out your trip.  I know what you’re thinking.  I can go to CAA and get a TripTik or I can use MapQuest.  This is way better.  You are in total control of your trip.  The software will map out your route and even show you what hotels/restaurants/attractions/etc are at your stops.  If you do alot of driving, I highly recommend that you purchase this software.

This trip would be the first time that we would get to fully test a new toy that I bought … a GPS.

When we were doing our planning, our initial thought was to go through the United States and then come home back through Canada.  After looking at the trip and doing some calculations (ie hitting Cracker Barrel on Sunday), we changed the trip to do the driving through Canada first and then come home through the United States.  This allowed us to have 2 full days of shopping at the end of the trip and we would be hitting 2 of our favourite stores … Christmas Tree Shops and Bath & Body Works.  Bath & Body Works always have their Semi-Annual Sale at this time of year.

We would be driving approximately 12 hours today.  We left home and drove and drove and drove.  Luckily for us, we were able to have dinner at St. Hubert somewhere in Quebec.  Boy do I love their coleslaw.  After dinner, we got back into the car and arrived at our destination for tonight, Riviere-du-loup in Quebec.
