More to explore

We have no real firm plans for today except to explore more of Barcelona.  So we decided we did not want to get off of the ship too early.  We met up at O’Sheehan’s Bar & Grill for breakfast.  It does not have an extensive menu but it was great to try another place to eat.

The same crew as yesterday headed out today … Paul, Jen, Karen, Darlene, Nana and myself.  Once we got outside, we picked up the Cruise Port Shuttle Bus again and then we boarded the Barcelona Bus Turistic at the World Trade Center stop and rode it to Placa de Catalunya.

From there, we walked to the Gothic Quarter which is Barcelona’s birthplace.  The area is comprised of narrow alleyways filled with shops, bars and many beautiful buildings including Barcelona Cathedral and Barcelona City Hall.

While meandering the streets, we got separated but eventually met up at Mercat de la Boqueria which is an indoor market that has everything from fresh meats and produce to various dining options.  We walked around for a bit taking in all of the sights and smells.

We wanted to sit down for some lunch so we ended up at Cafe de l’Opera on La Rambla.  It was nice to have a bit of a rest and to do some people watching.

We had a decision to make since we were between two Barcelona Bus Turistic stops.  We could walk back to Placa de Catalunya or walk down to the Colum/Museu Maritim  stop.  We choose the latter and rode the entire Red Route which took about two hours.  We got to see the oldest part of the Port of Barcelona and where the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1992 Olympic Games where held.  It was great to see so much more of the city without having to do all of the walking.  We got back to where we started the day at the World Trade Centre and picked up the shuttle bus around 5:30pm.

For tonight’s dinner, we choose the Manhattan Room where Donna, Paul, Jen, Teresa, Jon, Karen, Darlene, Nana and myself had great food and great conversation.  It is really nice at the end of the day to sit down and see what everyone else got up to.
