It’s our last day here at Kahana Village. We started it by seeing lots of whales in front of the condo. Since we are moving to the Kealia Resort which is in the southern part of Maui, we decided that we would do just part of the north western drive that we did on Monday. We didn’t want to go all the way around. We wanted to see the view from the West Maui Mountains on a sunny day.
Once again we picked up lunch from the Honolua Store and then proceeded up the moutains. It was a much better view today than on Monday. We stopped at the Nakalele Blowhole and hiked down just a little bit but the blowhole wasn’t blowing as good as it did the other day. We headed back down the moutains and decided to have our lunch at Honolua Bay. This was the site of the Billabong Pro Maui women’s surfing competition which was the third and final event of the women’s Vans Triple Crown of Surfing series. There were quite a few surfers in the water and we also saw more whales.
We went back to the hotel to enjoy an hour relaxing around the pool. Before heading to the Kris Kristofferson concert, we stopped at the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center to check out the rest of the mall.
The concert was at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center and it was a benefit for the Hana High School. Before the concert, we had dinner served in the courtyard by Consuelo’s Catering. Kris Kristofferson put on a great show. It was just him and his guitar and harmonica. You felt like you were sitting in his living room. There were two funny moments in the concert, he goofed up the lyrics and the proceeded to tell the crowd that “old age is a bitch”. The second moment was when he was going to start to sing “For The Good Times” and he asked the crowd what the first line of the song was. And of course, the audience obliged.
We went back to the hotel and proceeded to pack up our stuff.
Has it been a week already? Wow, you done and seen so many things! What did you have for dinner at Kris’ show? Mahi Mahi for $13 – what a deal! There’s some cooking program/course at the Maui Community College where you can go for dinner with the students cooking and serving you. It’s a 3 or 4 course meal for $15-20. Everytime we go to Maui, school’s been out so we’ve never been able to try this.
