It was an early morning today but that is fine when it is vacation time. Nana, Papa and I left home around 5:00am and soon enough we were at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
After a quick three hour flight with Air Canada ($570.43 CAD/person x 3 plus 40,000 Aeroplan miles and $87.15 in taxes) , we landed in West Palm Beach to a beautiful sunny 80+ degree day. We spent a bit of time at Enterprise ($97,83 USD/day + $20.99 USD/day to upgrade) trying to find the right vehicle that could take four adults with their luggage and a wheelchair. We ended up with a Ford Flex which is a pretty sweet ride.
My mom has a cousin who happens to own an ocean front condo on Singer Island which is not too far from West Palm Beach. He and his family always spend Christmas there so we dropped in to say a quick hello. When we come back from the cruise next week, we will spend more time visiting them.
It took us about an hour to get to our hotel, Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Fort Lauderdale North -Exec Airport (Dorothy and Karen – $98.10 USD/night, Nana and Papa – $143.10 USD/night). The hotel is very nice and Nana and Papa have a huge suite. Nothing but the best for my parents.
We dropped our bags and headed back out for the evening. First up was Sawgrass Mills where we combined dinner at The Cheesecake Factory and some shopping at Burlington Coat Factory and VF Outlet.
Before calling it a night, we made one last stop to see some Christmas lights. Not just any lights but the Hyatt Extreme Christmas display which has over 150,00 lights. Every time of Christmas display that you can imagine is there. There is a Ferris wheel and a ski lift. This is something that truly needs to be experienced.
