Surprise

Karen and I have very good friends that live in Las Vegas, Darren & Allison.  Darren’s birthday is on February 25th and we decided that we wanted to surprise him.  Since our visit would be short (3 days), we decided to fly from Detroit since it was the only airport where we could get a direct flight.

We left home around noon and headed down to Windsor.  Karen’s niece Katie attends the University of Windsor and we wanted to stop and visit with her.  We met Katie at the Royal Canadian Naval Association where she works.  We had alot of fun visiting with her and the great bunch of people there.  They were kind enough to give us each a ribbon.

We made our way to the Ambassador Bridge and then over to the Detroit Metro Airport.  Our flight with Northwest Airlines ($300 CAD) was supposed to leave at 7:20pm but it ended up leaving at 8:15pm and yet we managed to only arrive 15 minutes later than we were supposed to.  I don’t understand how that happens.

We landed at 9:30pm in Las Vegas and then went over to Hertz to pick up our car.  While talking to Allison in the weeks prior to our visit, we decided that it would be best to surprise Darren at a restaurant.  Allison came up with the idea of Denny’s.

We started heading over to the restaurant when we received a phone call from Allison to say that Darren was on his way.  We managed to beat him by about 10 minutes.  When he walked over to the booth and saw Karen and I sitting there, he was shocked and surprised.  The best part was that he didn’t suspect a thing.

We had a great time catching up over a late dinner.  We got to the house and ended up crashing around 3am.  What a long day.
