It’s been three years since we visited New Mexico. We thought it was about time for another visit.
We left home around 10:30am and had a very quick drive to the Peace Bridge. This would be the first time that we would be able to use our Nexus card. We drove up to the Nexus lane, flashed our cards at the card reader before proceeding to the customs officer. The only thing she asked us if we had anything to declare and then told us to have a nice weekend. In total, it took us approximately thirty seconds to cross the border.
We decided that we needed a good hearty lunch, so we stopped at Cracker Barrel. It only took us five minutes to get to the Buffalo Niagara International Airport from the restaurant. We are flying with Southwest Airlines ($410 USD/person). Southwest doesn’t assign seats, you just pick whatever seat you want when you board the plane.
The first flight went by pretty quick and soon we found ourselves in Chicago. We had an hour before our next flight so we grabbed some food and drinks. The second flight was 2-1/2 hours long. We couldn’t figure out when we booked, why the flight was so long. That’s because we stopped in Denver to pick up more passengers.
After landing in Albuquerque, we picked up our car from Hertz ($514 USD) and headed to the Monterey Non-Smokers Motel ($95 USD). This motel is on historic Route 66 in Old Town. The motel is run by a Polish couple (Henry and Bo Elencwajg) and the rooms are spotless. After a twelve hour day, we decided to just call it a night.
