Our first port of call on this cruise was Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas which is Holland America’s private island. On our previous cruises, it is normally the last port of call so it was different being here at the start of our trip. To get to the island you have to take a tender and it takes about five minutes to get there. I sat beside a lady who after about two minutes into the trip asked if the big ship behind us was ours. There were no other ships anywhere in sight.
Once we landed, we made our way down the beach away from the crowds and found us a clamshell. It is basically a tent over two loungers and this would be were we would spend the entire day. The day was basically divided into three tasks … reading, napping and swimming. The water was a bit chilly at first but once you got in, it was beautiful. The tasks were repeated all day except for a break in the middle for a fabulous BBQ lunch.
Soon it was 3pm and time for us to head back to the ship. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing on the upper most deck at the front of the ship. We had the entire place to ourselves. People think that cruise ships are just crammed with people. It can be but there are many places on the ship that are deserted.
With it being a formal night, we decided to have dinner at the buffet. I am not sure where all the people were since it was really quiet in the restaurant. After dinner, we headed over to the casino where I ended up winning $160USD on a single spin on Haywire Jackpot. But I ended up cashing out $200USD. Now I need to buy something stupid with that money. We ended our evening by checking out the karaoke. We are onboard with some mighty talented people. The best person of the night was Mona who said that she had never done karaoke and she thought that at 94 maybe should should try.
