– I like birthday parties
– ice cream is yummy
– Stompin’ Who?
You know what is the best way to start your birthday, hearing four furry feet running into your bedroom. We went into the living room where I got presents from Karen and Kai.

We decided that today we would do the north western part of the island. Our first stop was Kensington to check out a grocery store that sells cooked lobsters packaged and ready to eat. We did not get any since we did not have a way to keep the lobsters cool until we got back to the cottage. We also had to pick up a birthday cake from The Willow Bakery & Cafe.

From there, we went into Summerside to Global Pet Foods to pick up a little something from Kai. On the way out of town, we stopped in at Kool Breeze Farms which is a garden centre, farm market, stone yard, seasonal store and ice cream barn. Karen saw on Facebook that they were selling five pound bag of PEI potatoes for $2.97 each or 2 for $5.00. Of course I had to get some to bring back home. And even though we did not have lunch yet, we decided to have dessert including Kai.

While we were having our ice cream, there was a lady that remembered Karen from the ferry ride. She told us that Donahue Beach in Tignish is really nice and good for dogs. Since we were headed in that direction anyways, we decided to go. When we got there, the beach was empty. Kai was getting braver with the waves and getting his feet wet.

We continued northwest to Skinners Pond, the birthplace of Stompin’ Tom Connors and home to the Stompin’ Tom Center. Besides the museum, restaurant and gift shop, the centre also has the one room schoolhouse that Stompin’ Tom attended and the homestead where he lived with his adoptive parents.

When Karen and I were on Prince Edward Island twenty years ago, we went to The Bottle Houses and Gardens. We thought it would be a great place to go with Kai since it is all outside. After driving an hour, we arrived at 5:40pm and it closes at 6:00pm. Karen went inside and came out with a strange look on her face. The person working there said that dogs are only allowed if they are carried throughout the property or by riding in a stroller. No paws on the ground. None of these rules were on their website. Oh well, their loss.

We had about a forty-five minute drive back to the cottage. So we decided to call ahead to Sou’West to pick up a couple of lobster rolls for dinner. We had to make sure to have lobster because last night Mr. Cousins told us that it is in season right now. We finished up our meal with birthday cake which we made sure to share with our host Francine.

Since we have been on the island, we have not visited any lighthouses. Lucky for us, Cape Tryon lighthouse was only a ten minute car ride away. We had to travel a kilometre down a very bumpy road but it was worth it. On the way back, we spotted some baby foxes. They look just like Kai.

We finished up the day watching Game 5 of The Stanley Cup Finals.
A big thank you to Karen and Kai for making this a birthday I will always remember.
