Groceries for the soul

Today we have to leave for home.  But we still have the entire day ahead of us.  We decided to get an early start and by 8am, we were at the Maui Swap Meet. They have everything that you expect to see at a flea market and more.  There were food trucks, lots of fresh vegetables, fruit and flowers and many Hawaiian artists selling their one of a kind crafts.  We did not spend too much time here but we did manage to pick up a few more items that we need to find room for in the suitcases.

Our next stop for today was the Na Kamehameha Commerative Pa’u Parade in Lahaina.  The parade honours King Kamehameha.  Each of Hawaii’s major islands are represented in the parade by Pa’u riders.  The horses are decorated with exotic island flowers.  There is also a princess and her royal court.  One thing that is bothering us is how do the horses get from each of the islands to Maui for the parade.  Things that make you go hmmm.  After the parade, we checked out the various artists displaying their crafts under the Banyan Tree.  On our way back to the condo, we picked up a couple of sandwiches from Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop which we enjoyed by the side of the road.

We still had a few hours before our flight so we grabbed our bathing suits and headed down to the pool to spend what was left of our time here enjoying the ocean view.

It did not take us long to get our bags packed and the condo tidied up.  Therefore we grabbed one final dinner from Coconuts Cafe which we enjoyed on the lanai.  Shortly there after, it was time to leave.

The ride to the airport was quick and dropping the car off was painless.  We made our way to the Air Canada ($893.34 CAD total including taxes) counter where magically the bags seemed to gain quite a bit of weight.  The line through security was a breeze which gave us some time before our 8:40pm flight.

I could not get comfortable during our first flight which was to Vancover.  I know I slept it’s just that it was not very restful.  The second flight was a bit better since we were seated in an exit row.  We arrived in Toronto around 2:15pm to warm sunny skies.  Karen’s brother Ross picked us up and we had a quick visit with the Toronto Maloney’s before heading home.

Another great trip.  Time to start planning the next one.
