First full day of vacation

When you go on vacation, you should always read the local newspaper to see what are the upcoming events.  Karen found out that the Balloons Over Paradise festival was being held near the Seminole Casino Immoklee which was about an hour away from us.  We thought it would be great fun to see hot air balloons up close.

We did not get to the park in time for the Pre-Dawn Glo but we did still manage to see Puddy Cat and Yellow Bird, Chuckles the Clown and Hamlet the Flying Pig.  after looking at the balloons, we checked out the various vendors.  The best one was Ballon Buccaneers which made these awesome ballon animals.  Michael got this huge octopus while Liam got a stingray.

We checked out the schedule and realized that the alligator wrestling show as about to start in fifteen minutes.  While we were waiting for the show to start, we were chatting with a lady who told us about Lake Trafford Marina where you might be able to actually see alligators in the water.  The alligator show was quite entertaining and at times dangerous.

Since we were close to the marina, we thought we should go and check it out.  Just past the marina is Ann Olesky Park.  It’s an area that has some picnic tables, boat launch area and a long wooden pier with a covered structure at the end of it.  As we were walking along and watching various people fish, Karen spots an alligator coming towards us.  As he got closer to the pier, he dropped under the water and then appeared again on the other side.  It was really great for the boys to see an alligator in the wild.   On our way back to the rental house, we stopped and picked up lunch from Panera Bread.

We were all tired from getting up early so we spent the rest of the afternoon swimming and relaxing.  We left Dave, Cathy and the boys dockside fishing while Karen and I went to Cracker Barrel to pick up dinner.  When we got back, they were very excited to tell us that they caught nine fish.  After dinner, we had a quick swim before watching movies.
