Today we are on the move. We are saying goodbye to Twillingate and hello to Fogo Island. We wanted to catch the first ferry which leaves at 8:00am. That meant leaving Whispering Wind Cove Cottages at 6:00am since it was about an hour drive to the Farewell Provincial Ferry Terminal. When we arrived at 7:00am, there were approximately ten vehicles ahead of us.

While we were waiting, I was able to have a little nap and I think Nana read her book. The interesting thing about this crossing is that you pay your fare ($34.00 CAD), that includes your return trip back. We could see the MV Veteran in the distance, so I walked over to the dock to get a few photos of it coming in.

It was just before 8:00am when they started loading us onto the ferry. I was worried with it being the summer, that the ferry was going to be full. But when we got upstairs, we had no trouble find a table at the back. Since we were on the direct ferry to Fogo Island, it was only about a forty-minute ride and we arrived in Stag Harbour just after 9:00am.

The drive to Island Harbour took us about twenty-five minutes. When we arrived, Pauline and Dennis were so happy to see us. None of us could believe that we were all here together on Fogo Island. We sat around and got them caught up on what has been happening back home.

There are a few things that we want to do on Fogo Island. First item on the agenda was to visit Pauline’s mom Bride at the Fogo Island Health Centre. We did not want to go empty handed, so we picked up some onion rings from The Cod Jigger. We had such a nice visit with Bride and two of Pauline’s brothers. On the way back to the house, we stopped back in at The Cod Jigger and had a late dinner (aka lunch).

Once we got back, the rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing. I’m not sure what Dennis, Pauline and Nana got up to since I left to go explore Deep Bay and Shoal Bay. The scenery on Fogo Island makes for great pictures.

When I got back, it was time for dinner. Dennis prepared us a delicious fish chowder made with cod that he caught.

Pauline and Dennis insisted that Nana and I take the two bedrooms which meant that they were going to stay with Pauline’s sister Gloria who lives across the road. I tried to convince them that I was fine sleeping on the couch, but they said no. That is true Newfoundland hospitality. So they grabbed a couple of things and said that they would see us in the morning.
