There were no early morning plans today so we got to sleep in and boy was it needed. The only thing on the schedule was a two hour whale watching tour with Ultimate Whale Watch at 11:20am. So the morning was spent just taking it easy.
The tour was just getting started when we came upon somewhere between 100 to 120 spinner dolphins. What was so cool was seeing them circling around a guy that was on a stand up paddle board.
We left the dolphins and once again it was not long before we saw a baby shark (is the song going through your head now). Karen had the GoPro in the water and the shark went right for it which scared Karen. Unfortunately we did not get any footage of him.
We buzzed all over making many stops for whales. The best was actually the last stop we made because there were two male humpback whales fighting for the affections of the female whale. I can see how people get addicted to whale watching because it is a thrill when you actually get to see them and you just want to see them more and more.
After the tour, we did a little bit of shopping on Front Street in Lahaina before heading back to the condo. The rest of the afternoon was spent checking out the turtles and hanging by the pool.
Backstory … Karen’s brother Ross and his wife Susie have a son Greg that lives in Australia with his wife Anne and their daughter Bridget. We found out back in July that the Australia Maloneys were going to be in Maui for Christmas. Once we found out, we were able to manage to extend our trip for another few days so that we could be there.
The evening was spent catching up with Ross and Susie who arrived late this afternoon after a long travel day.
Nice work of capturing minute details.
