Coal Miner’s Daughter on Cape Cod

It was so nice to sleep in today.  We had no provisions for breakfast so we headed to one of our favourite restaurants in Hyannis, the Sea Street Cafe.  Even  though there was a line up, somehow we got seated right away.  The food was just as good as I remember it … Cape Cod Benedict and Bananas Foster French Toast.

After getting fueled up, we drove over to the Hyannis Late Summer Arts & Craft Festival which was being held on the Village Green.  It was nice walking around the park checking out all of the vendors.  What I noticed about this festival was the uniqueness of many of the items that were being sold.  I spent much more money then I intended but I did manage to get a couple of nice gifts.

We thought we should go and check out our first Christmas Tree Shop. Lucky for us it is the Summer Clearance Event and there were lots of bargains.  We stopped by the grocery store to pick up a few things before heading back to the house to relax.

We had dinner at the Olive Garden before heading over to the Cape Cod Melody Tent to catch Loretta Lynn.  Cape Cod Melody Tent is a very intimate concert setting, holding only 2250 people.  The stage is in the middle of the tent and it actually rotates.  After parking the car (which cost nothing), we walked by Loretta’s tour bus on our way inside.

The concert started with Walker County, a sister duo who were accompanied by their dad on guitar.  Next up was  Loretta’s son Ernest Ray and then her twin daughters Patsy and Peggy.  Finally the moment came, Loretta walked down one of the aisles and took the stage.  She was dressed in one of her signature gowns.  I don’t know how she did it since it was about a million degrees inside the tent.  She spent most on the concert sitting down but that’s understandable for an 83 year old woman.  Loretta sang all of her hits with no help from a teleprompter.  What a lady.  If you ever get a chance to see Loretta Lynn, make sure you do.  There is a reason she is the first lady of country music.
