Canada Day long weekend

We didn’t want to stick around home for the long weekend.  Karen was fortunate enough to receive not one but two invitations to cottages.  Karen’s brother Ross with his wife Susie, have a lovely cottage just outside Algonguin Provincial Park on Tasso Lake.  Karen’s other brother Rob and his wife Gloria, have a cottage near North Bay on Falconbridge Island.  It’s their own island.  We decided that we would visit both of them during the weekend.

We left home around 9:15am on Friday and as soon as we got off of the 407 ETR to Highway 400, we were hit with a wall of cars.  You see … Barrie was the official Canadian site for Live 8.  We figured that everybody would be heading up there on Saturday morning … nope … they were all heading up Friday morning.  We inched our way up the 400 and then decided that we would take the next exit.  We were very lucky that we had the GPS which eventually got us to Ross and Susie’s, 3 hours later than expected.  The rest of the day was spent by relaxing, taking a boat ride around the lake, eating and watching “Best In Show”.

We got up around 6am and Ross took us out in the little boat to take pictures of the sunrise.  Boy was it beautiful, especially with the mist on the water.  After getting up from our mid morning nap, we headed down to the dock to enjoy the sunshine and to have some lunch.  We didn’t want to leave but we had to make our way up to North Bay.

We got back into the car and made the 2 hour drive to Rob and Gloria’s.  Once we got to the island, we ate, the kids went out on the inner tube, ate some more (what is it with Maloneys and eating), watched the sunset, set off some fireworks and enjoyed a campfire.

We were going to get up and take pictures of the sunrise, but it just wasn’t meant to be.  Once we all got up and had some breakfast, we had a walk around the island and then headed down to the beach.
