Big Island & Maui, Hawaii

Today was our last day on The Big Island.  Sorry to leave the Kona Tiki Hotel, but Maui is waiting for us!  Had a final breakfast by the pool, and then headed to the airport, which is about 7 miles away.

This time we flew with Island Air on a very small plane.  About 10 rows of seats, 2 per side.  We had seats on the right side, and could see some smaller islands, and then Maui.  Had a very nice view of the south and west coastline of Maui, and then crossed through the middle of the island and landed in Kahului.

Again we got off the plane right onto the tarmack.  We need more smaller airports like this in Canada.  Flying is so simple at these little airports.

Once again we picked up our car at Thrifty.  But this time we got the blue Sebring CONVERTIBLE.  You need a convertible when driving on Maui.  The scenery 360 degrees around you is always beautiful.  And you can really get a good suntan/sunburn!

Headed over to the Maui Swap Meet, which is only on Saturdays in Kahului.  Lots of nice local crafts and food.  Picked up some type of apple banana which turned out to be very weird.  And sticky!  Like glue.

Since we couldn’t check into the condo until around 3:00, we headed across the island, and then up the coast to a really nice beach.  Definitely need to go back and swim there.  Headed to Kihei and drove through the town to check out the activities and shopping.

Checked in at the Kealia Resort in Kihei.  Fabulous, fabulous condo!  Beautifully decorated.  And the view is to die for.  From our lanai we can see the small island of Lana’i, the island of Molokai, and a crescent shaped atoll called Molokini, which is big for snorkelling and diving.  Once again there are crashing waves!

Went down to the pool for a “refreshing” swim, and then to the lounge chairs to watch the waves.  Our condo is the last one in Kihei, and you can walk forever along this beautiful beach.

Had a fabulous dinner at Aroma D’Italia Ristorante.  This place makes the best Italian everything.  The house salad and Caesar salads were magnificant.  So was the bread.  And the pasta … superb.  We may have to return there!

Over to the Cyberbean Internet Cafe to post the blogs.  Big comfy chairs, and you can even enjoy a smoothie while surfing the web!

Thanks to everyone for posting your comments!  Glad to see you are checking back for updates.  Wish you were here too!
