It was really nice to sleep in after two early mornings. Once we enjoyed our continental breakfast, it was time to say goodbye to Bonavista or so we thought. On our way to the lighthouse, we stopped in at Newfoundland Salt Company. Adam who was working there gave us quite a bit of information about salt. He also mentioned that his partner Claire runs a really nice jewellery store that we should check out. We told him that unfortunately we were on our way out of town.

Cape Bonavista Light is the fourth largest lighthouse in Newfoundland. It is a prime location to see icebergs, whales and puffins. And we scored two out of three. We did not realize there was a puffin colony there. There had to have been a few hundred puffins. We spent quite a bit of time watching them. At one point we were sitting on some rocks close to the edge, when all of a sudden, a puffin lands about fifteen feet away from us.

After leaving the lighthouse, we found a pull out with an awesome view of the Atlantic Ocean. It is here where we enjoyed our lunch that we picked up from Swyers Fresh Food back in Bonavista.

By this time, it was after 1:00pm so we thought why not check out Claire’s jewellery shop Kind Seas.  While we were there, Claire mentions that we should check out Brim Pottery Studio + Boutique just a few doors down from her.  So after doing some shopping, we walked down to Wendy and her mom Cheryl’s shop.  When we told them that we were sent by Claire, they laughed.  We have learned that Newfoundlanders support each other.

Now it was 2:00pm and we were finally leaving Bonavista. About one and a half hours into our drive, we made a pit stop in Hillview. Our friend Darlene grew up here and we wanted to see the place.

One hour and twenty minutes later, we arrived in Brigus, the home of the HGTV show called “Rock Solid Builds”. We went to Newfound Woodshop which is their merchandise store but it was already closed for the day. Since it was just after 6:00pm, we decided to have dinner at The Quay. Instead of deep friend cod, we decided to go with the pan fried cod. I think I may like it better this way.

We still had a some daylight, so we drove around Brigus trying to see if we could recognize any of the homes from “Rock Solid Builds”. We will have to go back and watch the show to see if we were right.

could this be one of the houses?

We finally arrived at the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton St. John’s Airport ( $197.09 CAD (including taxes) – $84.01 in Expedia Rewards Points (Dorothy) = $113.08) at around 8:00pm. It was really weird to be back in a city. We have two days in St. John’s and we need to come up with a plan.
