We are getting near to the end of our trip so we decided that today would be a shopping day. After enjoying the usual breakfast on the lanai, the first stop was at Longs Drugs to pick up some SPAM that was on sale.
It was then off to Kahului where we went to Costco again. I debated about getting more chocolate covered macadamia nuts but in the end I said no. And then we finished up our shopping excursion in Kahului at Target and Walmart. It was way past lunch time, so we ended up eating at Raising Cane’s. They are famous for the chicken tenders. When we tried to eat here last year, the place was way too busy.
On our way back to the condo, we spent some time at a beach near Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop. That is what I love about Maui. There are so many great places where you can just pull over to enjoy the beach.
We were going to have dinner from Joey’s Kitchen again but they were closed. We decided to go to Whalers Village so that Paula could do some more shopping. Karen and I tried to go to the Joey’s Kitchen in the food court but they were closed as well. We tried to get a table at Hula Grill but instead ended up at the bar. Hula Grill is known for the Hula Pie. What is that you ask. Here is the description from the website:
“Hula Pie is made with our favorite macadamia nut ice cream stacked high on a scrumptious chocolate cookie crust. A layer of cool chocolate fudge sits atop the ice cream giving form to this delight. Whipped cream dances at its base before decadent, hot chocolate fudge is poured over the top and drizzles to each side. Finally, more toasted macadamia nuts fall and cling to the hot fudge bringing together everything your taste buds need for a vacation.”
Since we knew that we were getting pie, we ended up splitting a salad. We were seated next to a couple from Arizona who were staying at a nearby resort. The guy said that all week he had been debating on whether or not he should have the pie. We were finally able to convince him and when he had the first few bites, he knew he made the right decision.
We met back up with Paula who had finished up her Christmas shopping and then it was back to the condo and called it a night.
