A great start

Everyone was very excited today because we were getting on the cruise ship. We left the hotel around 11:00am and it did not take us long to get to Port Everglades. There were approximately fifteen ships in port including a couple of the very large Royal Caribbean ships.

Karen dropped off Nana, Papa, me and the luggage. She then headed to the Fort Lauderdale airport to drop off the rental car. I would say that it took the three of us approximately half an hour to be sitting in our staterooms. This is probably one of the few times that the wheelchair is convenient. Karen arrived about an hour later and we all headed up to the Lido Restaurant to enjoy our first buffet of the cruise

We spent some time checking out the ship and it’s beautiful Christmas decorations before heading back to our staterooms to unpack. I even enjoyed a complimentary neck and shoulder massage. I did not realize how stressed out I am. I might need to have another massage during the cruise.

At 4:00pm, we went to the mandatory passenger emergency drill. We have come to the conclusion that the people who continue to use their cell phones during the drill, should be thrown overboard immediately. After the drill, there was an announcement asking quite a few staterooms to head down to the main office. We suspect that these are the people who did not participate and that they were being escorted off of the ship.

We decided to have an early dinner so we made our way to the Rembrandt Dining Room. Tonight’s selections included fresh fruit medley, Roasted Chicken with Sausage Cornbread Stuffing and Eggplant Cannelloni Parmigiano.

After dinner, we went to the Holiday Tree Lightning Ceremony. The tree is three stories high and after it was lit, they dropped “snow” from above. The rest of the evening was spent relaxing.
