We decided to go exploring today. Today’s destination was the Ioa Valley State Park. It is a lush valley in West Maui. We picked up some sandwiches and headed to the park. We had an enjoyable picnic lunch before we started our short hike. The park is home to the Ioa Needle which is a 2250 foot stone pillar. The park has exotic tropical plants and clear, natural pools.
After leaving the park, we made a quick stop at Macy’s at the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center to check out their 1 day sale. We went back to the condo and relaxed before dinner. We were even lucky enough to see two whales. We had dinner from the China Boat restaurant and enjoyed another meal out on the lanai.
The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa has a program in the evenings called Tour of the Stars. The tour is nine stories up, on a remote site of the hotel rooftop. It’s given by Eddy Mahoney who is one smart man when it comes to Astronomy. There is one big telescope, one smaller telescope and one pair of binoculars that Eddy moves to different things during the one hour program. We saw planets (Jupiter and Uranus), stars (The North Star, Vega, Altair and a star that looked like “ET”) and galaxies. It was so cool standing on top of the hotel and just gaze up into the sky.
