Last year a bunch of us did a cruise and since we had such a great time, we decided that we should do it again. Once again Karen’s niece Marie who works at Expedia CruiseShipCenters in Barrie organized it. In total we have fifteen people … Marie and her son Brodie, Teresa and Jon (Karen’s niece and husband), Kris and Becca (Karen’s nephew and wife), Paul and Jen (Karen’s brother and sister-in-law), Maria (Marie’s boss’ wife), Mari and Pam (friends of Jen), Steve and Linda and Karen and myself. This is going to be a fun bunch of people.
We debated about heading down to the airport this morning. But when we checked the weather and when Air Canada advised us to arrive three hours before our flight, we decided that we should drive down the night before. Lucky for us, Ross and Susie (Karen’s brother and sister-in-law) said we could stay at their house and they would drive us to the airport in the morning. We had a nice visit with them before heading to bed.
Once we got up and got the car packed up, it was only a ten minute ride to the airport. All I can say is that Air Canada’s advise was way off. In total it took us twenty minutes to drop our bags off, go through security and US Customs. By 9:30am, Karen, Linda and I were relaxing in Air Canada’s Maple Leaf Lounge. Two hours later, it was time for us to get down to our gate.
Our flight to Miami (19,000 Aeroplan miles + $62.66 CAD / person) was forty five minutes late leaving. Apparently we had to wait for a couple of passengers who were stuck in security. Did they not get the same memo that we did. Anyways at 12:45pm, we finally left and it was just under a three hour flight. We arrived in Miami to 26°C and sunny skies. After picking up our bags, Karen and I headed over to Alamo ($33.35 USD including taxes booked through Costco) to pick up our car while we left Linda to wait for Maria. Soon we all were in our Dodge Caravan heading for the Best Western Plus Miami-Doral/Dolphin Mall.
We got checked into the hotel and then Steve, Linda, Maria, Karen and I headed over to the Dolphin Mall to meet up with the others at The Cheesecake Factory for dinner. It was so nice to see everyone. We are all excited to get the vacation started. After dinner, some continued shopping at the mall, while some went back to the hotel and a few of us went to Kohl’s. Karen and I dropped Becca, Teresa and Linda back to the hotel while we went to the airport to drop the van off. We used Uber to get back to the hotel.
