A hui hou (until we meet again)

It was our last day on Maui. A few days ago we contacted My Perfect Stays to ask for a half day. They said the only thing we could do is to pay for another day which we did. This meant that we would not be spending the majority of the day driving around before our 9:15pm flight.

We treated ourselves to breakfast at The Gazebo. Because it was raining, we decided to wait in line for a table inside instead of getting takeout. We had about a thirty minute wait before we got seated. Besides the view of Napili Bay, the restaurant is known for its banana macadamia nut pineapple pancakes. We always make it a point to come here.

After enjoying our breakfast, it was a quick stop at the Napili Farmers Market. It is a small market featuring Maui-grown produce, locally made foods and handmade crafts.

When we got back to the condo, it was time to relax and pack. For our final meal on Maui, we picked up a Maui Wowee pizza from Dollie’s Pub & Cafe.

We had one more thing we had to do before leaving and that was to go and say goodbye to the turtles. Nana is sure going to miss Franklin and his friends.

It looks us about forty-five minutes to get to the airport. After dropping everyone off with the bags, I went to Budget Car Rental to return the car. When I got back to the terminal, Karen was waiting there with my bag. It only took a few minutes for me to drop my bag and for the two of us to go through security. By 7:30pm, we were sitting and waiting for our flight to Seattle. Boarding began at 8:40pm and it did not take long for everyone to get onto the plane and settled in their seats. The flight left on time and I spent the next almost six hours trying to get sleep. When I wasn’t sleeping, I was watching Your Friends & Neighbors starring Jon Hamm. It was pretty good.

We landed in Seattle at 6:00am and this time we had a three hour layover. It was much more relaxed than what we experienced a week ago. Anyways after finding our gate, we grabbed some breakfast and relaxed. Finally just after 9:00am, it was time to get on the plane for our last flight. As we were walking through first class, Karen spotted Amy Roloff from Little People, Big World.

After a four hour thirty minute flight, we arrived in Detroit at 4:46pm. When we got off of the plane, it did not take us long to collect our bags. We headed for the pickup area for Airlines Parking and they were there in about five minutes. What is nice about this company is that they drop you off right at your car. We got all the bags loaded into my car and it was time to head home. We did make a stop at Panera Bread for supper before crossing back into Canada via the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

We got to Karen’s house just before 10:00pm and were greeted by Paul and a very happy Kai.

Once again, it was a great trip to Maui. I love being able to show people why I love this island so much. I never would have suspected that I would have been back to Maui in under a year. How long before the next trip there?
