Rest and relaxation
After yesterday’s adventures on Oahu, we decided that today would be an easy day. Before the trip, we joked with Nana that today is the only day that she gets to relax.
We started the day with a leisurely breakfast on the lanai. The rest of the morning was spent either reading or in my case working on the blog.

After lunch, we wanted to see the part of Front Street that had reopened since we were here in December. The first thing we noticed was the new sidewalk on the ocean side of the street. As we walked along, we kept stopping to try to remember what business used to be where like Lappert’s Ice Cream and the Baldwin Home Museum. The building that once held Fleetwood’s is now just a concrete shell. It truly felt as if we were in a ghost town.

We kept walking until we reached the Banyan Tree, one of the best known landmarks on Maui. It is the largest banyan tree in the country and its branches used to cover almost an entire block. Many times we would go there for either a craft sale or some kind of celebration. I remember one year there were kids playing in snow underneath it. There is still a fence protecting it and it is recovering from the fire back in August 2023.

Not too far from Front Street is Baby Beach. This was another area we wanted to check out because it too has been closed to public access since the fire. As the name implies, this is a very calm beach and we knew that this was the perfect place for Nana to get into the water. We spent most of the afternoon here relaxing. I spent more time in the water than I did on the beach.

When we got back to the condo, we had supper from China Boat Restaurant along with another beautiful Maui sunset. After supper, Nana, Karen and I headed to Lahaina Cannery Mall because I wanted to pick up a few things from KaiAloha Supply. We finished up our night relaxing as always.
