Back in April, Karen and I went down to Marco Island in Florida. Karen’s nephew Dave, his wife Cathy and their two sons Michael and Liam joined us and we all had a great time. So much fun was had, that we decided to do it again.
Since we are flying out of Detroit, we wanted to get on the road as soon as possible so that we can avoid driving in the dark. We got out of work after lunch and were on our way by 2:30pm. The drive was long and boring but it was made bearable by the snacks and Sirius radio. We got to the Ambassador Bridge and made our way over to the Nexus lane. There was only one car in front of us and very soon we were on our way to the Baymont Inn & Suites Detroit Airport/Romulus ($83.00 USD) in Romulus which was about half an hour away.
After we got checked in,we texted the Paisley Maloneys and learned that they were at the Southland Center Mall. We decided that we would head over to The Christmas Tree Shop since it is always a favourite on Black Friday weekend. As we were getting ready to check out after finding everything on out list and more, Michael and Liam popped up around a corner. We all were so happy to see each other and very excited about our trip. They decided to check out the store, while Karen and I went in search of dinner. We formulated a plan to meet up with them in a little while at Kohl’s.
We tried to go to Panera Bread but they were closed because of a power outage. Instead we headed over to the mall and had dinner at Olga’s Kitchen, apparently a Michigan institution. Dinner was quick which gave us time to check out Macy’s before meeting up with the gang at Kohl’s. Everyone managed to find something at the store and we were lucky enough to get an additional 15% off of our our purchases. The boys were getting tired so the Paisley Maloneys headed to the hotel while Karen and I made a couple of quick stops at Target and Meijer before calling it a day.
