Jaws

What should one do for their last day on the Cape, go to the beach of course.  We decided to go to Nauset Beach.  It is a long huge beautiful beach.  Once we got the car parked, it did not take us long to find our spot for the day near a lifeguard stand.  The first thing I noticed is that the waves were huge because it was high tide.

While we were relaxing, all of a sudden we heard the following over the lifeguard’s walkie talkie … “Get down from the stand and get everyone out of the water.”  The lifeguards ran to the water’s edge and told everyone to get out.  When they came back to the stand, they changed the flag from red to blue.  A blue flag means there is hazardous marine life in the water.  We eventually found out that three great white sharks were spotted about one hundred yards from shore.  We heard a little girl ask did the lifeguards see the shark’s fin.  They said no but they did see dark shadows in the water.  I have never been to a beach where shark’s have been spotted.

After all of the excitement, we spent the rest of the afternoon reading, eating, napping and just plain relaxing.  Around 4:30pm, we noticed the lifeguards pack up their stuff.  As they were walking away, one of them said “Bye bye stand, see you next year”.  It must have been their last day on the job.

It was getting close to dinner time so we decided to have our last dinner on the Cape at the Sesuit Harbor Cafe which overlooks Northside Marina and Cape Cod Bay.  As we were parking the car, we noticed the huge line up to get in.  Eventually we got inside, ordered our Lobster Roll and Fried Scallops and then found a couple of seats at a picnic table outside.  Since the restaurant is B.Y.O.B., it seemed everyone around us was pulling out bottles of wine or beers from their coolers.  It was a really nice way to finish up our time on Cape Cod.
