It is our last full day here in Newfoundland and we have one more thing that we need to see. After enjoying a continental breakfast downstairs in Skipper’s Restaurant, we packed up the car.
Our first stop was at Cape Bonavista Lighthouse to see if there were any puffins. Unfortunately there were none but the views made up for it. And so did the really nice gift shop.

We drove back into Bonavista to do a little bit of shopping before heading to our next stop.

Elliston besides being known as the root cellar capital of the world, is home to an accessible puffin viewing site. It is about a five minute walk from the parking area along a well worn path and some sketchy rocks.

When we got to the top of one of the cliffs, we were rewarded with the sight of thousands of puffins. Most of them were on Bird Island but a curious few were on the mainland. We were surprised how close we could get to the puffins. We spent about half an hour taking lots and lots of photos. I am so glad that Nana’s wish to see puffins came true. Because she has bought quite a few puffin souvenirs on this trip.

From Elliston to Gander was about a two hour and forty-five minute drive. We did make a couple of stops before arriving at the Quality Hotel & Suites ($218.70 CAD / night before taxes) at 4:30pm.

After we unloaded the car, we decided that we should go for supper. We went to Rosie’s Restaurant & Bakery and enjoyed pan fried cod and a turkey dinner. Fun fact .. this restaurant was an official location for The Amazing Race Canada. When we left the restaurant, the line was out the door. I am so glad that we went early.

We did some final shopping before heading back to the hotel for the night.
