World’s most beautiful mountain drive

Today we said our goodbyes to the Canmore / Banff / Lake Louise area. The next couple of days we are going to be spending exploring the Jasper area. The drive to Jasper is done on the Icefield Parkway which is a 232 km stretch of highway that runs through Banff and Jasper National Parks. Along the route you will see soaring mountains, waterfalls, sweeping valleys and many rivers and lakes. If you drive straight through from Canmore to Jasper, it will take you three and a half hours. We left at 10:00am and arrived in Jasper at 6:30pm. The following is a list of the highlights of our eight and a half hour drive:

what a great spot for lunch
Crowfoot Glacier
Bow Lake
Waterfowl Lake
Weeping Wall
construction on the Big Bend
Bridal Veil Falls

Hiking to almost the toe of the Athabasca Glacier and seeing how far the glacier has receded:

Athabasca Glacier
we made it
car park down in the distance
It is sad how much it has receded
Tangle Creek Falls
mama and baby
this baby was hot

There were a couple of stops we should have made but we were just too tired so we will do them tomorrow.

We are staying at the Jasper House Bungalows ($233 CAD / night plus taxes) which is just outside of Jasper. We dropped our stuff off and headed into town for dinner at Karouzos Steakhouse. We did not have any energy left to do anything after dinner so it was back to the bungalows and we called it a night.
