Lazy day

Because we have finished all of the big driving trips we had planned for this area, we decided to have a “lazy” day today. We started off by treating ourselves with breakfast from Rocky Mountain Bagel Co and Starbucks.

We wanted to do some shopping, so we headed to Banff since we had not been there yet. Just like in Canmore, Banff has closed off most of the downtown to vehicle traffic.

We paid for two hours of parking and we quickly realized that we would need more time. We stumbled upon Melissas Missteak and decided to have lunch. This is a restaurant that we always try to visit whenever we are in Banff. After enjoying our meal, we kept working our way up and down Banff Avenue.

We finished up our shopping and decided to do just a little more exploring of the Banff area. On our way down Tunnel Mountain Road, Karen spots a bear crossing the road. I did not have my camera ready so I did not get any pictures of him. But the best part was that there was a woman pushing her bike up the road just ahead of the bear. Karen says to the woman “hey, there’s a bear behind you”, the woman turns and looks behind her and then proceeds to keep pushing her bike.

We did the Lake Minnewanka and Mount Norquay drives and both did not disappoint. At Johnson Lake, there were lots of people enjoying the water and at Lake Minnewanka, we saw a bride and groom going to get their wedding photos done. On the way up to the Mount Norquay ski resort, there is an awesome view of Banff.

We left Banff and headed back to Canmore. After dinner, we went out to pick up some last minute groceries and gas up the car. Tomorrow we leave Canmore and head up the Icefields Parkway to Jasper.
