Finally

Where do I begin. As we all know, 2020 has been a sucky year due to Covid. Karen and I had two big trips planned for this year … a two week TransAtlantic cruise in April and a three week trip in June to Australia. Obviously both trips were cancelled and hopefully some time in the future we will be able to use up all of those airline credits that we have. My vacations from work so far have been spent at home. But I was able to spend my birthday week at Karen’s house which has been dubbed “Adventure Bay”.

We have been trying to figure out ways to spend my vacations and Karen’s nieces Teresa and Marie mentioned that they were booked for a week at the 1000 Islands / Ivy Lea KOA. They said that we should join them. We first thought about renting an RV but thought what if it’s raining and then we are stuck in a small space. Marie mentioned that there is a website called RVezy.com where people rent out their trailers and some of them will even deliver them. We did some checking and ended up renting a trailer for the week ($1342 CAD – $900 rental, $320 add-ons and $122 service fee).

We left home around 8:30am and it was an easy drive east down the 401. We stopped for lunch in Napanee and as we were getting back on the highway, we got a call from Luke the owner of the trailer. He said that he had just got on the 401 heading for the campground. As luck would have it, we spotted him on the highway.

We arrived at the 1000 Islands / Ivy Lea KOA at around 1pm. We are in site 106 which is along the back of the property. It did not take Luke long to get the trailer backed in and set up for us. He even gave us a quick tour on how everything operates. The trailer is a 33 foot 2019 Jayco Jayflight. It has a bedroom at the front, a spacious living/dining/kitchen area and double bunks in the back. It is a really nice trailer which sleeps eight people or Karen, Maui and myself. It took us about an hour to get everything out of Karen’s jam packed car and settled into the trailer

Yes … we need all of this stuff

We headed over to Teresa and Jon’s trailer where we spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing and catching up. Dinner was courtesy of a take-out style rib fest which Marie had picked up prior to leaving Barrie. We had ribs, brisket and pulled pork and it was all excellent. After dinner, a few of us went swimming while others just relaxed.

I have a friend at work that is in a band called Last Band On Earth. They were to perform at a local bar tonight but because of Covid, the gig was cancelled. They instead decided to do a Facebook livestream. We got the TV hooked up outside and we enjoyed an hour of classic rock. If you ever get a chance to see Last Band On Earth, make sure that you do. They are really really good and you will have a fun time.

Here we go

After their show ended, we said our goodbyes and the three of us headed back to the trailer. It has been a long day but it sure is nice to finally be on a vacation.
