There was a one hour time change so my body thought it was 7:30am but it was actually 8:30am. Time for breakfast. We called down to our travel mates and they each had ordered room service. We asked if they wanted to join us for a second breakfast but they declined. Karen and I headed to the Lido restaurant. We grabbed our breakfast and headed to the back of the ship to enjoy the sunshine.
The ship has lots of activities today and one of them we did was the Behind the Scenes Galley tour. The tour started off in the main dining room and one of our first stops was the dish washing area. They wash approximately 3000 dinner plates, 7000 dessert plates and 5000 glasses. I guess more people eat dessert than dinner. We also saw the Pastry and Bakery area where they prepare over 20 kinds of bread daily along with 4000 dinner rolls. All the hamburger and hotdog buns are made fresh every day. We also saw the Fish Prep, Hot Kitchen and the Coffee Pantry. We were lucky enough to meet the Executive Chef.
Since Marie, Karen and I are Mariners, we were invited to the Mariner Society Brunch. It is a lunch they have on each cruise for returning guests. Besides having a fabulous lunch, you get champagne and a souvenir coaster. We even got to meet Captain Frank Van Der Hoeven.
We went back to our stateroom where we did some preparation for tonight’s music trivia, and saw some dolphins from our balcony. The rest of the afternoon was spent many different ways. Becca and I went to The Retreat where we found a couple of loungers and spent some time in the hot tub, Karen went to Bingo, Teresa and Marie hung out in their stateroom and Kris wandered the ship.
After a relaxing afternoon, we met up at Canaletto which is the Italian restaurant. There was lots of laughing amongst the great food. Tonight’s entrees included Chicken Marsala Scaloppini and Linguini Frutti Di Mare.
Team C.C. wanted to try their luck again at “Name That Tune” so the entire group headed up to the Crow’s Nest for the challenge. Tonight’s topic was love songs. All I can say is that Team C.C. won again with a score of 27 out of a possible 34. We each won a fabulous Holland America travel mug. Where we are lacking is in songs from the 2000’s and up. We’re going to have to work on that, or bring some younger Maloney family members next time.
We decided to check out “Bob Mackie’s Broadway” in The Showroom At Sea. More free champagne at the show. It was a pretty good show but we cut out early so we could end the night dancing in the Crow’s Nest. I can’t keep up with these young kids.
What does team cc stand for…The food looks delicious!!!

You could invite me next time, I can help with the recent songs!
We crashed the Mariner’s lunch on our first Holland America cruise. We walked into the dining room expecting lunch and not realizing it was a specialty lunch…oops. They seated us anyway and didn’t ask for any invitation. 🙂
