It’s Kaili’s birthday today. He is nine. Wow … time sure does fly. I remember when he was just a puppy. We took him to the University of Waterloo. We take him there every year to do his birthday portrait. This year we did it a few days early since he was just at the groomers.
Last winter, we had a very small tailgate cookout with Peter in the parking lot at work. Peter works out of our Toronto office. The purpose of the cookout was the Peter could show that he could feed a family of four for some ridiculous amount. I think it was like $10. He brought his propane burner and whipped up a fabulous chicken dish. We had so much fun that we asked if he could do it again.
The budget this time was $50. Peter said that he had purchased the ingredients for the BBQ pork with crispy noodles (my request) but that he still had $25 left over. He asked if he should prepare a mystery dish. We said go for it.
We headed down to Waterloo Park where Peter prepared an awesome late lunch … BBQ pork with crispy noodles and spicy beef with jasmine rice (mystery dish). There was so much food that we got to take leftovers home. Yummy!!! Thanks again Peter.
A few months ago, there was a rumour circulating the Gordon Lightfoot had died. He dispelled that rumour tonight by putting on a great show at Hamilton Place. We were very fortunate to be in the second row. It felt like and up close and personal concert just for us.
Karen’s niece Liz is a member of the Senior Canadian Beach Volleyball team. She organized a friends and family tournament to help raise funds for her 2012 Olympic bid. The tournament was held in Toronto at Beach Blast which is an indoor beach volleyball facility. Along with the tournament, there was a skills clinic and a serving contest. The winning team was Danimals.
There are many exciting events on the horizon for the Maloney family. Kris & Becca are getting married on May 8 and Dave & Cathy are expecting their first child a week later. The Maloneys decided to have a combination wedding shower and baby shower at Karen’s house. Everyone had a great time. I think the best part was the baby bottle drinking relay race.
